Young Harris College is one of 17 institutions selected to participate in the Appalachian Regional Commission’s (ARC) Appalachian Teaching Project (ATP). ATP is an applied research training program during which students work with communities to address needs affecting long-term economic development. Participating students spend a semester developing projects to meet those needs, which they present at ARC’s annual ATP Symposium.
Eight students from Young Harris College recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to present their research and experiences from a semester-long project about the importance of water quality in Southern Appalachia.
Nine students from Young Harris College recently developed the Southern Appalachian Snorkeling Trail and wrote a guidebook for the trail as a result of their research on preserving the region’s water quality by promoting native fish diversity and ecotourism. Over the past few months, the students have presented their work in Washington, D.C., Cordele, Georgia and Asheville, North Carolina.
Young Harris College is pleased to announce that the campus now has three charging stations for electric vehicles. With the new 220-volt, 30 amp charging stations, electric car owners can charge their vehicles up to six times faster than charging from a standard wall outlet.
Young Harris College and the University of Georgia recently co-hosted the 25th annual Beekeeping Institute on the YHC campus.
Young Harris College’s Rollins Campus Center has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification by the Green Building Certification Institute.
Matthew C. Halteman, Ph.D, will deliver Young Harris College’s Ragsdale Lecture on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.
